OUSIA SKIN NUTRIENTS

JMD was tasked to create a full 360 branding identity inclusive of ad campaign, packaging and content creation for four innovative skincare products committed to 100% good-for-you ingredients in highly concentrated formulas free of preservatives, fillers, fragrances, or synthetic ingredients. They wanted a beautiful, approachable, and highly sustainable packaging that matched their commitment to their efficacious yet clean formula’s.

THE VISION
As we began the design process, we discovered that Ousia meant “essence” in Greek. We also discovered that the brands Founder, Tammy Demos, closely studied the native fruits and vegetables found in her Colorado mountain hometown to create the benchmark for the formula’s. Marrying sustainability and luxury was key.
CAMPAIGN
To capture the natural aspects of the brand, the overall photography and campaign was swathed in golden lighting inspired by the sun on a mountain side. We wanted to infuse the shadows that nature casts, specifically that of the flora and fauna in the region. Diversity in ages and skin tones further drove home that the line’s potent natural ingerdients can work on anyone.

PACKAGING
Inspiration struck and we knew that the profound visual of the Colorado mountains was the right direction to take as the main visual for the brand. We re-interpreted the landscape into a graphic statement that’s flood printed on the pack and has a matte finish watercolor texture on both the primary and secondary. We created an ombre palette of muted greens across the design and added a brand icon of a woman reaping her harvest at the top with the tagline “Harvested by Nature”. This became the brand seal and reminder that these products are pure and come from the earth. To further drive and connect the packaging to the purity of the formula’s, the primary packaging for the two powders is made of 100% recyclable paperboard with a self-adhesive tamper seal and the icon stamped at the top is cold foil. The primary mist and oil are glass with removable plastic cap/pump and/or glass dropper. All four products can be taken apart, refilled and re-used. The Discovery Kit that houses these four unique products is also sustainable and made of 100% recyclable paperboard.
